THE REAR VIEW by Sharon Roden
SAG - A cycling term meaning support and gear and/or refers to one who lags behind the others.
Bottom line I don’t cycle, but I wanted to support Team Chain Gang. With motto's like “Never Give Up” and “No Rider Left Behind” our team found the perfect role for me as their SAG.
I was a bit offended at first, you know, being called a SAG (notice it is in all caps, this is important ego wise). But acknowledging that I have been called worse and hearing Lance Armstrong refer to SAGs in glowing terms without smirking, I’ve somewhat eased into accepting the moniker.
So I follow the team, carrying water, extra food, a first aid kit, a camera and a tool kit. I haven’t figured out how to drive along side and adjust a bike seat at the same time yet, but we’re getting pretty good at our exchanges of clothes and water bottles on the fly.
Some might find being a SAG either too boring or too nerve racking, but I have a different view...and yes, it’s the Rear View of a SAG.
